Say hello to this serene and beautifully reimagined Welsh dresser, inspired by coastal living and full of character. We discovered this charming piece in the wilds of Yorkshire, but its story begins much further afield—it was originally crafted in South Africa in the 1960s from dark wood and travelled with its family to England in the 1980s, settling near the North and West Yorkshire border.
To give it a new lease of life, we fully stripped, cleaned, and sanded the wood before applying a custom blend of Frenchic paints, resulting in a soft whitewashed sage green. The rest of the exposed wood has been treated with white wax, enhancing the natural grain and creating a washed-out, seaside feel that inspired the piece’s ‘Beachcomber’ theme. The addition of rustic rope handles perfectly complements this look, bringing it all together in a subtle nod to New England coastal style.
This dresser is not only beautiful but incredibly practical, offering plenty of storage with two drawers (one with cutlery dividers), two large cupboards, and upper shelving for display. Thoughtful details like scalloped carving along the top and base and decorative accents between the drawers and cupboards soften the overall look and add charm from every angle.
A piece with history, style, and function—perfect for adding a touch of calm, coastal charm to any kitchen, dining room, or hallway.
