A Little Bit About Us
It’s been a rather unexpected journey that’s brought us to where we are today—and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s all unfolded.
After many years working in Scenes of Crime in Yorkshire (a job I truly loved), Martin’s career took us halfway around the world—first to Malaysia, then on to Singapore. Living abroad was an incredible experience. We immersed ourselves in new cultures, met amazing people, and along the way, discovered a lot about ourselves too.
When we returned to the UK, we made the decision to leave the corporate world behind and lean into our creative sides. We started searching local tips and online marketplaces for unwanted, forgotten pieces of furniture. With a bit of love (and a fair bit of elbow grease), we began upcycling these items—transforming them into bespoke, practical pieces that still carried the charm of their past lives. We’re big believers in keeping the history alive, but we’re not afraid to add a bold twist when it feels right.
It wasn’t long before others started to take notice of what we were doing—and just like that, The Shed on the Left was born. It’s a name that means a lot to us, as it all started in, you guessed it, the shed on the left!

Some of our work
Our work with the Fitzwilliam Museum began in September 2023 when All Things Studio London approached us to source 10 mismatched wooden chairs—each a different style—for a new public learning space. With a tight deadline and strict durability requirements, we prepared and finished each chair in Miss Minton yellow using a meticulous multi-step process to ensure both aesthetic impact and long-term resilience. Delivered personally on 24th November, the final collection brought a vibrant, welcoming energy to the museum, balancing creativity with practicality for daily use.
