This mid-century Maid Marion kitchen larder unit from the 1960s was in a pretty dreadful state when we found it. Peeling paint, worn-out surfaces, and neglected hardware meant it had been long forgotten -but we could see the potential straight away. Beneath all that wear was a sturdy, well-made piece just waiting to be revived.

We stripped back the layers of old paint and got to work restoring the original hardware, bringing back its charm while staying true to the retro roots of the piece. Once cleaned and prepped, we repainted the unit in a striking combination of Farrow & Ball’s All White and Arsenic – a playful, classic pairing that instantly gave the piece a proper 60s vibe.
Aside from its good looks, this larder is full of clever features. It offers loads of storage space and shelving, plus a handy drop-down door that reveals the original enamel prep surface – a brilliant detail that’s both practical and full of character.
Now fully transformed, this once-forgotten larder has become a bold, eye-catching piece perfect for a retro-styled kitchen. With its original features preserved and its colours brought bang up to date, it’s ready for a brand new chapter in a new home.
