Mainwaring Arms, Whitmore

The Mainwaring Arms in Whitmore is a traditional country pub full of character, history, and charm. Its furniture plays a big part in creating that welcoming atmosphere – but with age and heavy daily use, even the most solid pieces eventually need attention.

What We Did

We were asked to repair and replace a large number of chairs – around 30 in one go. This was a significant project and one of the larger single batches of chairs we’ve taken on for a pub.

The chairs themselves were amongst the oldest we’ve worked on. Despite their age, they were in reasonable condition structurally and, more importantly, they had a beautiful style that was well worth preserving. We carefully repaired loose joints, stabilised worn areas, and restored them to ensure they were fit for everyday use once again.

The Challenge

Working on such an old collection of chairs required a balance of sensitivity and skill. The aim was to keep their vintage character intact while making them strong enough to withstand the demands of a busy pub. Matching replacements to fit seamlessly alongside the originals was also key, ensuring the overall look and feel of the space remained consistent.

The Result

The Mainwaring Arms now has a full set of sturdy, restored chairs that keep the traditional aesthetic of the pub alive. By repairing rather than replacing where possible, we’ve preserved the character of these historic pieces – while giving the pub’s visitors comfort and reliability for years to come.
