Antique Sideboard, Buffet, or Chiffonier – With or Without Mirror

Meet this stunning grand dame of furniture—a nearly century-old antique sideboard that we were lucky to rescue just in time, moments before it was destined for the tip. Believed to date back to 1929 (see photos for reference), this beautifully crafted solid wood piece has been lovingly restored and thoughtfully upcycled to honour its heritage while making it perfectly suited for modern interiors.

We began with a full clean and strip-down, carefully preserving the rich character of the original wood. The gorgeous wood grain on the sideboard’s main body, doors, and mirror-side panels has been brought back to life using Danish oil, enhancing its natural warmth and depth. The drawers, ornate cabriole legs, frame, and mirror surround were hand-painted in Vintage with Grace ‘Delamere’—a deep, luxurious dark green that brings a sophisticated edge to this classic piece.

To complete the transformation, we applied gold gilding wax to highlight the detailed features and original drawer pulls, adding just the right amount of elegance and charm. The detachable top section, featuring the original oval mirror, offers styling flexibility—keep it for a grand, traditional look or remove it for a simpler, more contemporary feel.

Beautifully built and solid throughout, this sideboard is not just a piece of furniture—it’s a statement piece, steeped in history and ready to serve another 100 years (and likely more). Whether used as a buffet, drinks cabinet, or elegant hallway storage, it’s sure to be a talking point in any home.
